Solihull Ambulance Station to close in the New Year?

It has been brought to my attention that the Ambulance Station at Solihull Hospital will close at the end of January 2020.

I am told that senior managers at the West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) decided almost three weeks ago to close the Ambulance Station but chose to delay the announcement until after the December 12th general election because it was deemed 'politically sensitive'.

If true, this is a major blow for the residents of Solihull.  The prospect of having to wait for an ambulance to arrive from Erdington, on the other side of the M6 Spaghetti Junction, is deeply concerning.

I am seriously concerned that this could put lives at risk. Therefore, I implore WMAS to reconsider their position and keep the Ambulance Station and its staff in Solihull.

Most ambulances that attend calls in Solihull are from Erdington Hub anyway. And the Solihull vehicles almost always end up out of Solihull so there will be no difference at all whether it remains open or closed. The same number of ambulances and staff will remain they’re just being moved to Erdington.

Why close Solihull when they have just received 8 ambulances. Four to the QUEEN so where are the rest. Solihull Hospital to suffer again. Diabolical.

Just to clean something up...
Solihull has been duped for years! The ambulances that are based at Solihull hospital are not fenced to Solihull and spend most of the time in Birmingham; the responder car that was supposed to cover Solihull from Dorridge GP 70% plus of the time had no one manning it because they were crewed up with an Erdington truck so that was empty; and Solihull hospital isn’t even an A&E which means anything from Solihull that has abdominal complaints, trauma (which includes simple falls at home with a bump to the head or even a simple skin tear will not be accepted) cardiac problems to a degree. Everything else tactically has to go to Heartlands...
But here’s the worst news, should you suffer a heart attack or stroke you have to travel to Heartlands (we have a saying time is brain/time is heart) and to cap off... should you suffer cardiac arrest the response time will be long which is detrimental and also should the crews be able to keep working on you they can’t take you to Solihull hospital because they won’t accept, so in this case, time is life...

This is an absolute joke, they cuts made at Solihull hospital have already cost lives so to close the ambulance station is only going to cause more harm

3 years ago our family were faced with a frightening experience when our son had a traumatic experience due to type 1 diabetes.
An ambulance was called and as a first aide I managed to keep him alive, while my other son spoke with the person on the phone from 999.
Nearly 40 minutes it took for an ambulance!! Yet we live 3 minutes away from Solihull hospital, when I asked why it had taken so long I was told ambuwss based in Erdington.
I was horrified I got onto my MP Lorely Burt and she managed to get 2 ambulances back to Solihull hospital base.
You don’t realise what’s going on with our services until you need them.
So please everyone make your views known.
We were lucky on this occasion had it been a heart attack then the outcome would have been very different indeed.
We need ambulances based in Solihull for Solihull residents please.
